Kunena provides the ability to use various topic icons for each category. This guide shows how you can create and use own topic icons.
Navigate to /media/kunena/topic_icons and copy the folder default (if you not use custom files therein, then you can remove the folder systemold).
Navigate to /media/kunena/topic_icons/own_topc_icons/user/svg and copy your own .svg symbols there.
Step 2: Open the topicicons.xml in /media/kunena/topic_icons/own_topc_icons and enter the names of your svg symbols.
Example:
Step 3: Go in backend to Kunena -> Categories -> click on a category -> Category Settings. The new folder is listed in the dropdown menu now. Select this folder and save it.
The new symbols will displayed now in this selected category.
Navigate to /media/kunena/topic_icons/own_topc_icons/user
Simply replace the icons with your own symbols.
Then go in backend to Kunena -> Templates -> your Template -> Features and select Icon Type = Images - Legacy
Go in backend to Kunena -> Categories -> click on a category -> Category Settings. The new folder is listed in the dropdown menu now. Select this folder and save it.
The new icon will displayed now in this selected category (I’ve chosen Welcome Mat for this example).
Go in backend to Kunena -> Templates -> your Template -> Basic Settings and to enter the name of folder.
This setting has no effect on already existing categories. You must select at existing categories the new folder manually.
You can also use your own icon names, but they must be adjusted accordingly in /media/kunena/topic_icons/own_topic_icons/topicicons.xml
First go in backend to Kunena -> Templates -> your Template -> Features select Topic Icons = Fontawesome. If your Joomla template not support Font Awesome, you can choose additional Load External CDN Fontawesome = Yes. Then change the names in /media/kunena/topic_icons/own_topic_icons/topicicons.xml ( for this example it is the icon “car” ). Here is a list with Font Awesome icons which you can use.
This also works with bootstrap 3 and 4 symbols, provided they are supported by the Joomla template.
